I first heard about this movie at Comic Con 2010 and it took an awful long time for it to come out on DVD. Maybe they were planning a theatrical release? I was reminded of the movie again at this month's Monster Mania, and it's finally out on DVD. Yay, Robert Englund and William Forsythe! And, um, Joey Fatone? Okay.
So, a la Assault on Precinct 13, a police station is closing, and there is only a skeleton crew left in charge. Joey Fatone (Detective Tom Caretti) obviously made an agreement that to toss any money or time at this movie, he would need a sex scene with a cute girl. The sex looked awful, and involved some random choking. Hot. So there have been some murders lately, including a young lady named Jenny Garrison. A frightened young lad comes into the station, covered in blood, claiming that a creepy dude came and decapitated Jenny while they were hooking up, and then jumped out the window...the fifth floor window.
Shortly afterwards, Inkubus (Robert Englund) shows up to the station carrying Jenny's head. He claims to be a nearly 100-year-old demon-type creature, and admits to a bunch of murders. He demands his one phone call, which he makes to retired Detective Gil Diamante (William Forsythe). Apparently the two had a bit of a run-in 13 years ago. He traipses over in a hurry once he realizes that it really is Inkubus. They lock Inkubus up, but he just basically toys with the staff, getting into their minds and making them literally run in circles. We're supposed to attribute this to magic or somesuch thing.
As it turns out, Inkubus really has a thing for this Detective Diamante, although we never fully know why. But he hates the guy enough that he rapes his wife (he claims she enjoyed it) and kidnaps his son to raise him in evil a la Storm of the Century. All because the guy maybe-almost caught him? WTF?
Robert Englund could play pretty much any villain in existence, so I really can't fault his performance. William Forsythe always slips easily into the weathered cop role, and this time is no different, although the dramatics over his wife seem forced. However, Joey Fatone was pretty laughable as the secret lover and tough-guy detective. It seems like this movie really wanted to go somewhere, but it couldn't figure out it's path. I really wanted to like this one, but just found it boring and silly. Englund and Forsythe could do way better...I won't say anything about Joey Fatone ;)

Random -- Monster Mania Convention this weekend!
Hey NY/NJ/PA horror lovers! Anyone headed to the Monster Mania convention in Cherry Hill, NJ this weekend? I'm going out there tomorrow, and I'll be staying all weekend! Super excited to see all my horror buddies from last year, and to check out their awesome lineup! My sister and I joke that this is the spring break for horror fans, and I'm hoping it's as wild and crazy as last year!

Movie News: Kane Hodder talks Hatchet 3, choking people out, and wrestling Danielle Harris
I took a video at the monsters panel at Monster Mania. It's mostly Kane Hodder talking (he tends to dominate the conversation) and he says some pretty hysterical things. John Amplas and Doug Bradley also chime in. Enjoy :o)

Random: Monster Mania 17
Monster Mania 17 was a blast! We made the four hour trek down to South Jersey/Philly, expecting to take a day trip to Philly at some point. I don't know how we would have had any time for that since we were having such an awesome time.
You can check out the full list of guests here but we were most excited about meeting Kane Hodder, Allan Hyde, the Children of the Corn cast, and the Walking Dead peeps. There was a Children of the Corn panel where we saw John Franklin (Isaac) and Courtney Gains (Malachy)
John Franklin brought his original Children of the Corn jacket from the 80s, and even screamed "you morons" like he did from the cross. Courtney Gains on the other hand, refused to yell "outlander" and was generally a large douche when we saw him later at the bar.
On the opposite end of the awesome spectrum was the cast of The Walking Dead. Norman Reedus, Steven Yuen, Jon Bernthal, and Laurie Holden all showed up for autographs and a panel. They always came out to the bar after, and a few people even came up to a room party on Saturday night. They were very fun and down to earth.
I don't have a picture of me with him, but Allan Hyde (Godric from True Blood) was also so nice. We saw him at the bar, and room party later and he was always so nice. Looks nothing like he does on the show though.
By far, my favorite person to meet was Kane Hodder. There's a reason he's a fan favorite. Not only will he chat with you when signing autographs, but would wave when you saw him out and about, and even chatted with us at the gym. I have a hilarious video of him I'll post later. He was super-excited that I saw Hatchet 2 unrated in the theaters and was genuinely surprised that I saw BTK and Ed Gein.
We saw Nick Castle, who played the original Michael Myers, and was completely uninterested in talking about it. He's directed numerous movies since then, and wearing the mask was only the highlight of his career in the mind of horror fans.
The Monsters panel was my favorite event of the weekend. It featured R.A. Mihailoff (Leatherface), Allan Hyde (Godric), Kane Hodder (Jason), Doug Bradley (Pinhead), and John Amplas (Martin). They had a hilarious banter, including Kane Hodder saying "Face it, Pinhead is a bitch."
The whole weekend was such a great time. We saw so many cool vendors and met so many really fun people. I'll definitely be attending another Monster Mania.
Postscript: Rumor is that Ace Frehley was such a gigantic asshole that they canceled his Q&A and pretty much wanted him out of there as soon as possible.

Random: Chiller Theatre Convention 2010
I went to the Chiller Theatre convention in Parsippany, NJ on Friday and it was an awesome time. Chiller is a little more on the small side, but I had a total blast. The only general disappointment was the fact that EVERYONE was charging heavily for autographs and photos. I mean, seriously $25 for a picture with the lady that played Magenta in The Rocky Horror Picture Show? $30 for a photo with Lita from the WWE? This was a little surprising to me.
Anyway, no one can stop me from taking my own photos and offering color commentary. First off was the best part of the convention, which was the fact that I met Bill freakin' Moseley. I barely remember this momentous event because I was insanely nervous. Full disclosure -- I did pay $25 for an autographed poster and a photo op, but it was well, well worth it. I was too nervous to say anything I planned on saying, but there's always next time.
Things of interest: Bill Moseley is incredibly nice and down to earth, and he is also left-handed. He volunteered to write "there's no ice cream in your fucking future" without me even suggesting it. He also is pretty damn smart, and I did read somewhere that he went to Yale. He was so awesome and I would love to talk to him again.
Also freakin' awesome as hell? WILLIAM FORSYTHE, man. We barely saw him at first because he somehow got seated in between Ralph Macchio and Linda Blair, while all the Devil's Rejects/House of 1000 Corpses cast was in one general area. We walked up to him, had a chat about The Rig and told him we missed him at the Comic Con. He informed us that he finished filming Infected just that morning. He was so cool when I asked him for a photo and didn't charge me a cent. Also, please excuse the fact that I am beaming like a complete dork in the photo.
Who else was there from the horror universe?

This is a close as you will get to taking a photo of Tom Savini. In fact, if you look at Tom Savini for more than a few seconds, his handler will tell you to move on. He's charging $30 for autographs, ONLY on the merchandise you buy from his table. Sorry, but he seemed like kind of a jerk.
Irwin Keyes from House of 1000 Corpses. He expressed much interest in doing a prequel.
Ginger Lynn from The Devil's Rejects. Did you know she was a Penthouse model and a porn star? She had a LONGGG line at her table.
Linda Blair. I was supposed to get an autograph for my mom. I texted her and asked if she wanted to give me $25 for it and she said no way.
Fred Williamson of From Dusk Til Dawn fame.
I also stopped by the table for Zombie Hunters: City of the Dead, a local NYC show I reviewed recently. The actors/actresses are beyond awesome, and let me take some photos after we chatted about my blog/review.
Chiller Theatre was definitely worth the trip, especially if you are looking for rare DVDs, memorabilia, etc. However, do not be disappointed (like I kinda was) that nearly every celebrity was charging a mint for autographs or photos.
